WHAT A GIRL WANTS

What a Girl Needs

Big Sisters have an impact.......

For many years Big Sisters have positively changed the lives of thousands of Canadian girls by providing an adult friend where one is needed.

Studies have shown that having a Big Sister can have a tremendous impact on a young girl's life such as increasing a Little Sister's chance of doing well in school. Girls who have been in our program see real positive change. Healthy development of every child is enhanced by a positive and nurturing relationship with a caring adult.

Big Sisters are.......

Big Sisters are caring adults who are dedicated to helping in the development of young girls. They understand the value of a nurturing friendship and the importance of adult role models in a young girl's life. A Big Sister is a mentor who cares about putting a smile on a special little girl's face.

Little Sisters are.......

Little Sisters are young girls typically between the ages of 6 and 18, who would greatly benefit from having the support, guidance and positive influence of a Big Sister. Sometimes a Little Sister may just be a girl in need of a special friend like you.

Responsibilities of being a Big Sister........

A Big Sister typically spends a few hours a week, or every other week with her Little Sister on a one to one basis.

The most important responsibility of a Big Sister is being able to positively impact a young girl's life. This can be done through shared activities such as going for a walk, playing a sport, baking, laughing, going on a picnic, or just plain listening and talking. There is little or no expense involved and some of the best-shared activities are low cost and spontaneous.

In this program, a Big Sister is matched with a Little Sister between the ages of 6 to 18 years of age in a one-to-one friendship on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  After the match is made, you get down to creating a true friendship that will benefit a child…but you’ll also be surprised about how the friendship will make you feel great too.
